Patinated Bronze
About this work
Commissioned for a walled garden in Tuscany — bronze chosen to age in conversation with the surrounding cypress.
Technique
Lost-wax casting at Pietrasanta foundry. Phosphor bronze for outdoor durability. Base of Tuscan pietra serena stone.
Surface & finish
Hot ferric patina at delivery; outdoor oxidation thereafter. Annual cold wax treatment by collector.
Artistic background
“The commission was open: 'Something for the garden that will still be there in a hundred years.' Bronze was chosen specifically for its capacity to change — to record time on its surface while retaining its structural integrity. The form references the cypress silhouette visible from the garden's east wall, though abstracted to the point where the reference is felt rather than read. The patina, already dark at delivery, is expected to reach deep green by the decade's end. Edition of one.”
