Artistic background

Origin & Inspiration

The Nataraja form has been cast for over a thousand years across South India, and this work is in deliberate conversation with that lineage. The sculptor studied the Chola bronzes at the National Museum in Chennai before beginning the wax model. The key departure from tradition: the aureole — the ring of fire — is rendered not as a complete circle but as an open arc, suggesting that the dance is ongoing, that the fire has not yet closed. The lost-wax model took four months.
