Origin & Inspiration
“Commissioned for the entrance threshold of a private chapel in Kerala, this Ganesha was deliberately stripped of its iconographic detail — no attributes, no jewellery, no vehicle — to focus the viewer's attention on the singular quality of Ganesha as force: the capacity to open and close passage. The elephant head is present only as a mass, a weight. The trunk curves inward rather than outward, suggesting self-containment rather than blessing. Carved over eighteen months from a single Carrara block.”
Craft notes
Technique
Hand-carved from monolithic Carrara block. Traditional tools: point chisel, tooth chisel, flat chisel, hand-held grinder for final refinement.
Finish
Rough-hewn texture on rear and sides; hand-polished satin finish on frontal face and head. Sacred thread marking in bas-relief.
