Statuario Marble
About this work
Polished statuario marble folded into an oracular posture — pure geometry softened by hand-finishing.
Technique
Lathe-turned for the primary profile, then hand-chiselled to introduce asymmetry. Final form took four months.
Surface & finish
High polish on convex faces; hand-roughened texture on concave interior surfaces to contrast light behaviour.
Artistic background
“Conceived after a visit to the oracle site at Delphi, this work attempts to give sculptural form to the act of listening. The stone was chosen for its characteristic blue-grey veining, which the sculptor reads as latent speech — language held inside the mineral since the Miocene epoch. The folded geometry is neither fully figurative nor fully abstract, inhabiting the threshold between the two.”
