Artistic background

Origin & Inspiration

A study in the mechanics of restraint: the column form — historically the symbol of upright authority — is here terminated not in a capital but in a torus knot, a mathematical form with no beginning or end. The work asks whether authority can be circular rather than hierarchical. Cast at the same Pietrasanta foundry, edition of five. The first cast is held in a private collection in Zürich.
