Patinated Bronze
About this work
Lost-wax cast in a single pour; the dark patina deepens under gallery light into near-black relief.
Technique
Lost-wax casting (cire perdue) at 1,080°C. Silicon bronze alloy. Cast in one piece; no seams.
Surface & finish
Patinated with ferric nitrate solution applied hot; sealed with heated beeswax. Patina deepens annually.
Artistic background
“The wax model was built over six weeks from life study sketches made in the sculptor's studio at night — hence the title. The intentional distortions in the figure — elongated torso, compressed legs — emerged from working by lamplight, where the model appeared in altered proportion. Cast at a foundry in Pietrasanta, Italy, in a single pour of silicon bronze. Edition of three.”
