Origin & Inspiration
“The form was built from slabs of high-fire stoneware, assembled with slip and allowed to dry under tension so that the surfaces warped and cracked in unpredictable directions. The ash glaze was applied thickly on the upper surfaces only, allowed to run during the firing. No two firings of this form produce the same surface. This piece is unique: the mould was destroyed after casting.”

Technique
Slab-built under controlled tension to encourage surface movement. Single-fire at cone 10 in a wood-fire kiln.
Finish
Thick ash glaze on upper surfaces, bare stoneware beneath. Wood-ash deposits from kiln visible on lower sections.
