Origin & Inspiration
“The timber came from a ship's keel — a beam that had been submerged or at least salt-drenched for decades. The sculptor worked without a preliminary sketch, following the grain's own logic. Where the wood curved inward, the form followed; where it split, the split became a compositional event. The title emerged after completion, when the upward pull of the grain became unmistakeable.”
Craft notes
Technique
Chainsaw roughed from reclaimed beam, then finished entirely with hand gouges and chisels. No sanding.
Finish
Raw linseed oil, three coats applied cold. No varnish or lacquer. Surface will develop patina with age.
